The new film from Gautham Menon is the remake of his Tamil classic Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya or VTV which was a major hit with Silambarasan and Trisha in it. The film had a beautiful song by AR Rahman called Hosanna which the director decided to use in the Hindi version as well thanks to the popularity of the song. However, a Christian association recently strongly opposed the song and went ahead so far to say that the song would hurt Christian sentiments. The argument against the song was that it was using the word 'Hosanna' in a way which can be called Anti-Christian. The term is used in Bible as a part of the prayer but the implication was that AR Rahman and the lyricist Javed Akhtar was in someway demeaning the prayer. AR Rahman however, stood firmly behind the song saying that it was a wonderful composition and it has already won plenty of awards from different parts of the country and it did not in any way demean any religious sentiments.
The group Christian Secular Forum (CSF) maintained that the term was a sacred prayer word for both Christians and Jews and by using it Rahman was violating the religious sentiments.
