Though the hopes were high, still it fell short of the expectations, and this year India is not going to have an entry to the Oscars as the nine films selected for the official Oscars entrants have been named, and Adaminte Makan Abu is not one of them.

Despite having a fine script and brilliant acting from Salim Kumar, the film was not selected by the members of the jury for the Academy Awards. Maybe the sentiments of the movie were lost to the jury or perhaps there were better films according to them; however it makes the film out of the race. Though Adaminte Makan Abu got quite a few National awards, it seems that ultimately first-time director Salim Mohammed's dream of having the film run for the Oscar finals would not be possible this time around as it has been dropped in favor of others. The top nine films have been declared, and out of these nine films, finally five films would be shown at the Oscar Awards.

There were 63 contenders for the Oscar Best Foreign Language film category and the countries that have been selected are Taiwan, Iran, Belgium, Poland, Morocco, Israel, Germany, Denmark and Canada.
