When Genelia did films like Santosh Subramaniam, Boys and Sachin, she was just trying to make her mark in Kollywood. However, her fan following in Kerala has been a good thing there, and now it looks like Genelia has gathered a good amount of them. Because when it was decided that Genelia would be doing the new film Urumi by Santhosh Sivan, the fans approved of the act. This would be a significant role for the actress who has previously done a lot of fun roles in films.

This is the actress's first Malayalam film and she is excited about it. She will be cast against Prithviraj in the film, and the film would be shot in Malayalam and Tamil. The movie Urumi is based on a story that talks about the assassination of Vasco Da Gama. Genelia would be playing the role of a Portuguese princess in the film. The film would be bilingual, and would be shot both in Malayalam and Tamil.

The incidents of the film would be a recreation of the 15th century when Vasco Da Gama first came to India. Santhosh Sivan is going to put in every details from history to make this into a serious period piece.
